Divide County Library Board Meeting – March 26, 2025
The meeting was called to order by Ms. Stewart at 5:20 p.m.
Board Members Present: Commissioner Isaac Jacobs, Mike Melgaard, Rita Stewart, Carol Williams, and Library Director Traci Lund. Absent: Nate Nelson (arrived at 5:25 p.m.)
Approval of Minutes – Minutes from January 15, 2025, were reviewed.
Motion to approve by Ms. Williams, seconded by Mr. Melgaard. Motion carried.
Financial Report
Minimal book purchases this early in the year. Accounting reports are now more detailed, with the director and assistant salaries categorized separately.
Librarian’s Report
George Phelps informed the library he is finalizing his estate planning and plans to donate again. Ms. Lund thanked him for his past and future contributions.
STEAM Closet: Gavyn’s Gadgets is now cataloged and will be promoted.
Old Business
Renovations are complete; mats will arrive soon.
Open House: forty-four people attended.
Star Library Award: The library was a 2024 award winner, based on budget, computer sessions, Wi-Fi usage, and other factors.
MIPA Judge: Ms. Lund is serving as a judge for the Midwestern Independent Publishers Association.
Technology Updates: The new copier is jamming when printing double-sided and will be repaired. Anna Benson from Computer Technologies will assist with computer updates.
New Business
Policy Review: The board reviewed the ALA Bill of Rights, Access Policy, and Challenge Policy.
Motion to approve with no changes by Mr. Jacobs, seconded by Ms. Stewart. Motion passed unanimously. Annual Report: Completed.
Collection Weeding: Plans to weed the E Section, audiobooks, and movies.
Ms. Lund reviewed the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and the Governor’s allotted matching funds.
Reviewed North Dakota legislative bills affecting libraries. Discussed Young Adult Book Placement:
The library does not have a dedicated Young Adult section. Books for ages 13+ are placed in the adult section. Books for ages twelve and younger are in the chapter book area.
Staffing Update: Megan Curtis has joined as a part-time employee.
Motion to adjourn by Mr. Jacobs, seconded by Mr. Melgaard. Meeting adjourned at 6:02 p.m.
